Our misconceptions around karma….

You have heard sayings such as:

  • No need to get revenge, their karma will catch up with them
  • What comes around goes around
  • Karma is a boomerang
  • Karma is a b*tch
  • You may escape the law, but not your karma

There are many more, but you get the general idea; the word ‘karma‘ is often used to signify an enforced payback by the Universe to set things right. A Divine form of justice that will make people pay for the wrongs that they may have otherwise gotten away with.

This is incorrect.

When it comes to karma most people even on the spiritual path believe that it is either a punishment or reward for behavior in the past, which it’s also not.

Much of our misconceptions around karma come from the concept being understood from a Christian religious viewpoint around sin and judgment day. We think there is this big scorekeeper in the sky that makes sure that we get what we deserve both in a positive sense (reward) and in a negative sense, such as punishment.

But karma doesn’t work that way. There is no external power judging us or keeping score, karma like everything else is an inside job. We keep the score ourselves, within our causal body which I will explain further on. There simply is no external power outside of us, that keeps track of our indiscretions, nor does there need to be such an overseeing power because our energy field keeps perfect score all on its own.

The truth about karma

So, if karma is not a cosmic payback nor a punishment or a reward – what is it then?

Karma is unresolved energy from the past, that is seeking resolution in your current life experience – aka external reality. Karma is all the lower frequency dense emotional/mental/vibrational energies you are still carrying from previous timelines such as past lives, early childhood, your current lifetime or from your ancestral lineage.

Karma is made up of:

  • Unresolved trauma and pain including the emotions, fears, and false beliefs that are the result of unresolved trauma
  • Self-judgment, self-rejection, self-loathing, self-hatred, unforgiveness, and so on for where you have hurt others
  • Unforgiveness, revenge, anger, hatred, and so on toward others who have hurt you

We are not our body, our mind, or our ego. We are our soul and our soul is made out of pure unconditional love. Karma is made up of everywhere, where we are out of alignment with the truth of who we are, this unconditional love.

In Sanskrit, the word karma means action, to act, or a deed. We create karma when our actions are in violation of unconditional love. This is evident when we hurt others, but less evident when others have hurt us. Yet, when we harbor negative feelings towards ourselves or others we are out of alignment with unconditional love. Even feelings of victimization, grief, despair, hopelessness, and so on, things we typically feel when we feel we have been wronged – are not in alignment with our soul’s truth. They are instead the ego’s perception of reality through the lens of already existing trauma. They are based on the perception of separation, and where there is separation, we are out of alignment to unconditional love.

Karma is created by acting out of alignment with the truth of who we are (unconditional love) and therefore karma is cleared or dissolved by releasing these places within ourselves across all timelines, where we have been out of alignment with our soul truth. This moves us out of our sense of separateness back into unity consciousness and oneness, which is our natural state of being on a soul level – the only everlasting aspect of the self. The rest dies at the end of each lifetime and is recreated to fit the life’s objective for every new incarnation that follows.

Karma and the causal body

As humans, we are multi-dimensional beings and part of our multi-dimensionality lies within our subtle bodies outside of our physical body. A couple of these subtle bodies are the mental, emotional, and vibrational bodies, just to name the most basic ones.

One of the other ‘bodies’ that we create within our human experience is called the causal body.

The causal body is where ahamkara (our sense of separateness) is stored, this sense of separateness is caused by our unresolved trauma (the wounded ego), which is part of our karma. The causal body unlike the other subtle bodies is more like a seed energy instead of a true energetic body, it holds the karmic template that records or stores the impressions from our previous lives.

The causal body not only holds the past but records new imprints from our current life experiences as well. This means that we can of course add karma to our already existing karmic load. We can make it grow or shrink, according to our actions.

This karmic template affects all aspects of the creation of the physical and subtle bodies. This includes deformities, looks, and IQ, as well as mental and emotional tendencies, as it sets the stage to allow us to heal what was left unresolved in our past (lives and family lineage).

When we die the causal body follows us from lifetime to lifetime carrying our karmic records with it. As the karmic or causal body is not really alive, to begin with – it never dies. It is a seed sustained by karma. When we heal the other four bodies, it empties out the causal body which causes it to cease to exist.

To understand this, one has to understand what karma truly is. Karma is the collection of the misinterpretations of our experience from our state of separation. It is in part the trauma filter through which we perceive life and respond to it, that creates our karmic load. In other words, our unresolved pain and trauma are part of our karmic load. When we heal this, we heal the separation between the wounded ego and the soul which simultaneously empties out the karmic imprint that is held within the causal body.

This means that all the karma that we resolve in this lifetime (even from previous timelines) is extracted from the causal body field and is not part of our imprinting in possible future lifetimes. The healing we do in this lifetime, not only heals our past but our futures as well when we remove the karmic imprints within our causal body.

Karma doesn’t always show up the way we expect it to

Because of our misconceptions around karma, we often don’t recognize karmic situations when they show up. This is of course amplified by the fact that we often don’t consciously remember our past life experiences. Having done an incredible amount of past life work both personally and professionally, I will share three situations from my own healing journey where karma presented itself in unexpected ways:

My husband cheating on me again…

The first example is from my second marriage that ended in 2009, I have recently written my contribution to a multi-authored book on Divine Union that I am co-writing. When writing my own story of transformation and how I got on the path of inner union, I had to go back to the story of my youngest daughter who died thirteen days after she was born. It was my dark night of the soul moment, not just because my daughter died but because my whole family fell apart and I was left only with my two youngest children.

I was living out a lot of different karmic timelines at that time, but I will take the example of my second husband cheating on me for the second time, not only in this lifetime but for the second life that I know of where we were also husband and wife.

In our current life when I was eight months pregnant with our first child, my then-husband bumped into his karma inside the grocery store. He started an affair with this woman, that lasted till our son was one and a half years old. Six months later, I was pregnant again which we had not planned and he didn’t want. During the pregnancy, we lived in two different countries which made it easy for my husband to start living a double life again.

Our daughter died shortly after being born due to a rare birth defect, during my pregnancy in working with a healer we were shown that she had been born to me in a previous lifetime in which I was given away in an arranged marriage to the king (who was now my husband again in our current life). The current life mistress had been his past life mistress as well and in that lifetime she had in a power grab, taken my husband and child from me. I had been more inclined to women than men in that lifetime and she had made sure that I got caught while being intimate with a woman. My punishment had been, to be buried alive after my child had been born.

So basically, they were running around behind my back in both lifetimes and it cost me my child and my life in the first one. Instead of making things right with me, like him being the best husband ever and her in this lifetime becoming my best friend which is often our naive idea of how karma works – they more or less f*cked me over again….

I’m going to make it make sense, trust me.

My landlord, who had been the Lord’s son and I the maid

The second story is about my current landlord, I pay the most rent out of all the villa apartments in our street. When I moved in, I paid a small fortune to get this luxury apartment only to find out that there were years and years of deferred maintenance. The oven grill, came down the first morning we were making croissants, windows didn’t close, locks didn’t lock and part of the price buildup was of course the private jacuzzi on our terrace that had broken cushions, was spewing green algae and did NOT heat. The water remained ice cold.

It took me over six months to get the landlord to fix everything and in the end, I wasn’t willing to put up with any more excuses I paid to have the jacuzzi fixed myself and then I deducted the bill from my rent.

I had paid a multiple five-figure deposit to be able to rent the apartment, but everything in the house turned out to be scratched or broken. I had sent a friend to check the apartment because we had been locked out of Spain due to the pandemic, but these were those little things that you only noticed once you lived there like the refrigerator that freezes everything you put inside it no matter the temperature you put it on, the broken grill in the oven and so on. Getting him to fix anything was a lengthy and exhausting process.

Over time especially when I met the owner of the real estate agency that I rented this house through, who rents here as well but pays €500 a month less for the exact same apartment. I felt that I was being charged too much for furniture that wasn’t even fit to give to goodwill and a landlord that expected me to pay for house repairs as if I owned the place.

I asked the landlord to consider, lowering the rent. I even offered him a deal where I would upgrade the furniture against a rent cut so that he would be able to rent it at a higher price point when I left and he responded by letting me know that he was sick of me complaining and that if I didn’t like the apartment he had no issue with me leaving. Apparently, there are people that simply accept broken jacuzzis (like my neighbors who rent with him as well) and I was now a “difficult” tenant in his eyes because my neighbors have accepted this nonsense for over three years!

It turns out that in one of my more recent lifetimes I was his family maid. He was the Lord’s son, that I worked for on an English estate and the family was terrible to their staff. It was actually more kind of a modern slave thing and the only reason I endured it was because I had a sickly grandmother that I sacrificed myself for. In that life not only did the family treat me badly, but the son (my current landlord) raped me throughout that lifetime, which was cut short when I committed suicide after my grandmother had passed away.

Somehow out of all the people in the world, I ended up becoming this man’s tenant because karma is extremely accurate. I can feel you scratching your head, trying to understand how this would be my karma but it will all become crystal clear in a bit. Bear with me.

My Twin Flame and his back and forth with other women

Over multiple lifetimes there almost always seems to be this confusion for the person that I have recognized as my Twin Flame between me and other women. The number of times that he was either with me and then left me for someone else, where he wanted to be with me but (accidentally) chose someone else, or that he was with someone else but wanted to be with me are numerous.

This guy has throughout all of his lifetimes had an issue with choosing ‘the right’ woman. It’s a theme for him and for me as well because I have been involved in multiple such scenarios with him across many different lifetimes.

One of the most recent examples of this came up recently from an Egyptian lifetime where he left me for another woman. I was ready to kill them both with a jewel crested dagger in my right hand, of which I still felt the cramp of holding it too tight for two weeks straight in my current lifetime (trauma memory in the body). In a sudden moment of clarity, I realized that him leaving me for another woman and a better lifestyle had nothing to do with my worth and so I walked away instead of killing them. However, because I didn’t want to let him go afraid to lose him and our precious love I convinced myself that he had left me because of my worth….

Basically, I trauma bonded with him and have been energetically clamping on to him since that life which is of course a very unhealthy attachment to be having with someone over multiple millennia and lifetimes. An attachment that I was ready to release.

In this lifetime he is playing out a similar scenario yet again, but what is even more interesting is that the woman that he left me for in this Egyptian life, came back into my life in this lifetime as a client. Ironically, the more I moved away from him and the Twin Flame concept as my focus of business the more difficult this client became. She became so oppositional and so disrespectful in her behavior towards me, despite repeatedly saying that she still respected me that I had to remove her from the group. The messages she was sending me privately were far from respectful and I immediately pulled up strong boundaries, because I do not accept disrespectful behavior from anyone.

It was ironic that she was so deeply connected to that life where I had formed this unhealthy attachment to this man and that she got so deeply triggered, the more I started to heal this inside myself. From our more mainstream understanding of karma, this would make no sense that this was my karma coming back around and yet that is exactly what it is.

This was my opportunity to heal deep karma which included healing this unhealthy attachment to this man because that was also not aligned with unconditional love, true love does not grasp on to someone in fear. That was the past life version of me, clinging to this person out of pure desperation.

What do all these three scenarios have in common?

You could say that the red thread throughout these three past life storylines is that it would appear that these people owed me. I was clearly ‘the victim‘ in all three of these stories. Yet, here these people were again, pulling the same or similar sh*t on me as they had in the previous lifetime when you would think that they would need to make things right with me.

These people hurt me in the past, so shouldn’t they now be making it up to me?!

Well first of all, because so much of our past life experiences are held subconsciously we are only seeing a fragment of the whole picture here. We are not seeing how other earlier past life experiences play into what we were playing out in these past timelines – nor do we know if there may not have been previous lifetimes in which I hurt these people intentionally or unintentionally. So, we don’t really know the full history between me and these souls.

We also don’t know if these people are replaying the same roles in this lifetime because they are ‘stuck’ in the same energy or because they need to play this part in this way to retrigger the experienced trauma from the previous lifetime. It would seem that my ex-husband, the mistress, the landlord, and the twin have quote-unquote “not learned their lesson” and are still stuck in the same behavior….

But, we actually can’t say this for sure because we don’t know and can’t judge based on this selective amount of information if this is truly the case – because again we are missing the full story.

What I have seen as absolutely true in relation to all these people is that these situations offer me an opportunity to forgive the “unforgivable” and restore these soul connections back to love.

By recreating a similar scenario, one in which I didn’t end up getting killed my ex-husband and the mistress offered me a redo to be able to forgive them this time around. By being a shitty landlord (even though I have heard he is genuinely a nice guy), the landlord offered me the opportunity to forgive him for his mistreatment of me in the past life. Through my healing journey, I had seen all the different timelines in which the man that I loved couldn’t be with me or didn’t choose to be with me, which he did again in our current life when he agreed to an arranged marriage (He’s Indian this time around). Thanks to the client coming back into my life and through my healing journey, I was able to find this deep unhealthy attachment towards the twin and release it as well as forgive this woman for ‘stealing my man’ in that lifetime. The problem had not been so much that he left me for someone else, the problem was literally how I twisted my perception about love and myself in order to not have to let him go.

So, these situations weren’t karmic in the way that these people had to set things right with me, but they were karmic in the way that I still had karmic ties with these people based on my own unwillingness to forgive them in the previous lifetimes.

The mistress that had taken my husband, my child, and caused my death. The husband that had me buried alive. The landlord that worked me as a slave, raped me and treated me with no respect. The twin who has throughout lifetimes and lifetimes not been able to make up his mind and the woman that I felt had stolen my husband because she was “better” than me.

Can you see how all of this anger, indignation, and unforgiveness came back to haunt me?
This is because I had continued to carry these unresolved energies with me over lifetimes and lifetimes. Karma truly is a boomerang.

This doesn’t mean that the other people walk away scot-free, I know for example that my ex-husband’s mistress was very traumatized by our current life experience. My then-husband had pretended to be single initially, then she found out he had a son and later again she found out he had a wife, even though he had sworn that we were not together. He had also tried to make her pregnant, which she very much wanted but which never happened – while I was pregnant twice in the same time frame. When she found out that we had a daughter that had died and he had not told her, she realized how much their relationship was a lie. She and I did a forgiveness ritual together, but he and she have never spoken since and this is over a decade ago.

It wouldn’t surprise me if she looking back on their time together feels that he f*cked her over big time, we divorced shortly after but he never went back to her – even though now they could have been together. Her trust in him had completely been broken. I can’t speak for her, but maybe also in her case, this was an opportunity to forgive – who knows?

But what I do know is that it was a very difficult experience for her as well, that deeply scarred her. With or without my forgiveness, she suffered a lot from her own unresolved pain and trauma that was retriggered through this drama that had played out between her, me, and my husband. She did not merrily live happily ever after and this is seldom true for anyone, even when it appears to be.

Yet even obsessing about whether someone got what they deserved, indicates that forgiveness still needs to take place. Once one has truly forgiven, there is no longer a preoccupation with the other – one is simply focused on living one’s own life happily ever after.

Karma is our opportunity to heal

In essence, what this all boils down to is that karma is our opportunity to heal.

It allows us to heal unresolved trauma and pain from previous timelines such as past lives, ancestral trauma, and/or early childhood trauma, but it also allows us to heal the sense of separation that is held within the wounded ego towards the soul. This is the ahamkara which is held together with our karmic template in the causal body, I spoke about earlier.

We cannot work within the causal body directly, but all the healing we do within the mental, emotional, physical, and vibrational bodies works through in the causal body. This is how healing our unresolved pain and trauma from the past leads to self-liberation on a soul level. It brings us into Mukti (self-realization or enlightenment) and later Moksha, the liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth aka Ascension – when the seed of karma is erased.

Within the Soul Embodiment® Therapy method, we can get access to the karmic templates held within the causal body to find the original wounds that created the karmic patterns that have been repeated over lifetimes and lifetimes. Healing the original wound collapses all timelines in which this pattern was played out and removes it from the karmic template imprinted within the causal body.

This means that healing or clearing our karma is the pathway to Ascension, aka shifting into 5D. The good news is that one does not need to be 100% healed or karma-free in order to start the Ascension process. According to spiritual and Ascension teacher Elizabeth Claire Prophet we only need to have balanced at least 51% of our karma in order to ascend (Mukti). In order to make a physical ascension (Moksha), we must balance between 95% and 100% of our karma.

Even though this sounds like an unaccomplishable feat, we have to remember that our souls have been working towards Ascension over lifetimes and lifetimes. We are not absolute newbies on this journey, we have been preparing over a period of eons to get where we are now.

To bring this topic full circle, we know that the subconscious mind pulls in the people, situations, and experiences that help us heal the unresolved pain that we are still carrying within our vibrational field. The unresolved pain and trauma from the past is our karma, which then subconsciously pulls in the people, situations, and experiences needed to heal it once and for all. This directly makes the concept of karma less abstract, but also pulls it out of the punishment/fear-based energy it is usually enshrouded in.

Karma is not your payback from the Universe, dishing out cosmic justice. It’s also not your punishment for being ‘bad’. Karma is the opportunity to heal everywhere where you are out of alignment with your true essence, your soul which vibrates at the frequency of unconditional love.

Part of the Ascension process and shifting into the 5th-dimensional reality is leaving victimhood behind you. Only the wounded ego takes things personally, because of it being in a state of separation. One cannot return to oneness with one’s own soul, without releasing the attachment to or perceiving oneself as a victim (even subconsciously).

The examples that I have shared from my own journey today, show how we can still subconsciously be attached to victim consciousness without us consciously feeling like a victim. Besides the example from my marriage over a decade ago, the other two previous lifetimes have only emerged over the past 1-2 months, despite all the in-depth extensive healing I have done with some of the best healers available worldwide.

Having done well over a thousand healing sessions for my own healing journey and having facilitated over a thousand client sessions over the past five years with my self-developed Soul Embodiment® Therapy method, I know that even those lifetimes where we appear to be the victim are just as they are now, the people, situations, and experiences we needed in that moment to heal a deeper underlying wound.

Victimhood is an ego illusion, that seems extremely real while we experience it, but that is only because we are missing the bigger context of the experience – aka being able to see the underlying wound that this person or people, this situation, and/or experience is helping us heal. Because we don’t actively remember what happened back then, we are unable to see exactly how our reality now is helping us heal. Instead, we see ourselves as the victim of this person/people. the situation, and experience because we can’t see the connection between then and now.

But just because we can’t see something, doesn’t mean it’s not there. We also can’t see bacteria or viruses unless we look for them. In a way, this is equally true for unresolved past trauma and pain that we are currently playing out in our lives. If we would be in the habit of looking for it, we would easily be able to see the connections between the past and present in the same way that we have over the years evolved into a medical system that can help us pinpoint the culprit of inexplicable physical symptoms such as persistent coughs, fever, diarrhea, vomiting and so on. Through the Soul Records or other past-life modalities, we can not only connect past and present but even find the original wounded that created the karmic pattern.

So, what about the idea that you can balance negative karma by creating good karma? This is of course a fallacy, we cannot earn our way to Heaven by being ‘good’. Yes, your actions should always be aligned to (unconditional) love to avoid creating more karma. But you cannot decrease your karmic load, by being a do-gooder and of course, the motivation behind such behavior isn’t 100% pure either. In order to decrease our karmic load imprinted within the causal body, we have to go back to these moments in time and choose differently. We have to choose love instead of fear, anger, resentment, hatred, and so on. We have to choose to come back to love in our soul connections with the people involved, no matter if they are still being jerks or not.

For example, the energy between the landlord and I has already shifted to neutral. In a session with a healer who is also clairvoyant, she was reading my energy and asked if I had moved since our last session which I have not. The energy around the house had shifted so deeply that it almost felt as if I lived in a different place. The only thing that changed has been my decision to lead by example and be the love that I want to see.

I pray this teaching has helped you get a better understanding of the concept of karma and its true meaning, as well as given you a deeper understanding of how to heal your karma as part of the Ascension process.

With my deepest love,
